Mapping the City

Oh wow, this is so cool. It’s like the Numerati, Minority Report..all happening. (h/t to CEO for Cities here). Using cell-phone and taxi GPS data, Sense Networks can produce heat maps that show activity at hot spots across a city. Currently, the service, called Citysense, only works in San Francisco, but it will launch in New York in the next few months.
Currently, Citysense shows San Francisco activity is 34% down from normal. The downturn at play definitely. There will be many more ways to splice and dice city activity data, and what can Singapore do here? We have lots of public data that can be mashed, why not have it as a platform for users/developers to API it and let’s see where that goes? It can be a contributor to our national identity and an industry in its own right too
